RISE AND SHINE Scholarship Program

For a further year, we are starting the RISE AND SHINE Scholarship Program that has been running since 2015, allowing several kids in Nosy Komba to continue their studies and open the doors to a brighter future for them and their families. 

 

The program provides top Secondary School students with a scholarship to go to High School and, eventually, University. This scholarship covers the costs of tuition fees, books purchase, food and accommodation and commuting.

 

Furthermore, as part of the program, these students are given the chance to be actively involved in the development of their village, where they come back during weekends and holidays to help out in the library, teach younger children to read and carry out other educational activities planned with the local teachers.

 

Thanks to RISE AND SHINE Scholarship Program, that is currently supporting more than 70 beneficiary students – 25 high school students +18 in the waiting list + 28 university students – we are witnessing an incredible impact across-board in the education programs.

 

In the last 4 years we had a record success rates with:

• 90%, 100% and 100% success rate in Primary school national exams (around 60% when we started the program).

• 75% and 96% success rate in secondary school national exams (BEPC exam to access high school, and have possibility to get the scholarship) - (around 30-40% when we started the program).

There is also an important reduction in the number of students abandoning school and the number of students enrolling in the École Banana is also growing. 

In 2023 and 2024 a record number of students succeeded in the BACC exam, with 8 out of 11 and 8 out of 9 students getting access to university respectively. There are now 34 students attending university thanks to this scholarship!

To sponsor our students, we would ask you to collaborate with 38€ per month*. All these funds will go to the field and, as a godparent, you would also get regular reports with the kid's school results, as well as pictures and letters.
